FIBRE & SPINNING
The Fibre & Spinning module supports the purchasing of fibre (on either a regular
purchase or consignment basis) and the use of that fibre in producing yarn.
It can also support the use of synthetic polymers and the extrusion of polyesters into yarn.
Raw materials purchased on a consignment basis are tracked to provide up to the minute information
on contract fulfilment.
Production of the yarn is controlled through the use of production orders. These outline the steps
that must be performed on a batch by batch basis and the order in which those steps must occur.
Quality control and physical lab testing can be performed on yarn and the results used in determining
the grade of the yarn.
When using natural fibres such as cotton or wool it is important to keep track of the mix of fibres
used in producing a yarn lot. Even though yarns may be produced with exactly the same mix of fibres,
if the source of the fibre (the fibre lot) changes the yarns will behave differently. The system keeps
track of the fibres used in producing a yarn lot and will create a new yarn lot number for each combination
of fabric lots issued into production.
