MASTER FILES
At the core of any system are the master files. Master files define the products
in your system. They define your raw materials, your machines and processes, your customer base and
your systems behaviour.
Every product has a Bill Of Material. This bill of material defines the pre-requisite raw materials
that are used to construct the product. Intermediate products, themselves used in the later construction
of other items, also have a bill of material.
Every product has a process path that defines the steps that must occur to take the raw materials and
produce the target product.
Depending on your configuration needs you may have any of the following master files in your system:
- Garments,
- Bed Linen,
- Finished Fabrics,
- Greige Fabrics,
- Warp & Section Beams,
- Yarns,
- Fibres,
- Hemming Add-ins,
- Packaging,
- Dyes & Chemicals,
- Print Designs and Screens, and
- Machines & Machine Operations
There are many other master files as well, however this gives you an idea of the sort of information
stored in the master files.
As a general rule, master file information is usually maintained by a central “Product Development”
department, although the function of this department can be just as easily performed in a decentralised manner.
