SQL REPLICATOR
The SQL Replicator is a replication engine provided by Arel to move data
from the production server to an SQL based data warehouse for reporting
purposes or one-way web interaction.
No direct SQL based access is provided to the production system to ensure
that security and control of the data remains the sole responsibility of
the Atoms system. Instead data is replicated to an SQL database for the
purposes of reporting and analysis. This has the further advantage that
the processing load demanded through reporting is diverted from the
production system to an alternate machine and production is not impacted
during times of heavy reporting load.
The use of an industry standard SQL based database allows the use of other
industry standard reporting tools such as Excel, Crystal Reports or Cognos
to query the production data and to draw business intelligence from the
data contained within it. Further to this, since the data is available in
a separate database to the production system it is entirely feasible to
combine this information with other data sources, such as point of sale
data or financial forecasts as need arises.
Currently only Microsoft SQL Server has been certified for use with the
Atoms SQL Replicator. Oracle and other SQL databases will be certified for
use as customer demand arises.
